411 Show Pastor's Roundtable for February 2019 (1st segment)

The 411 Show's Pastor's Roundtable is monthly on my show and airs (generally) on the 3rd Sunday of each month from 7am to 9am.  Pastors or faith leaders from different denominations discuss issues of the day with me and offer perspective on a host of issues and biblical principles. 

 

The 1st segment starts with my news headlines, comment and chatter with the 411 Show's Producer.  At 7:30am the guest pastors enter into the discussion.  With my this week was Rev. James McCarroll from 1st Baptist Church in Murfreesboro, TN.  

The 2nd pastor had the flu and will be re-scheduled at a later date.  The Roundtable continues on the 2nd hour of this show.  Check the podcast line-up for that show.  

Artist of the Week Interviews - Keiko Matsui

Pianists and composer Keiko Matsui is the WFSK Artist of the Week for the week of February 14 to 21, 2019.  She just released her latest project entitled "Echo".

Chicago's own Pastah J on the Church Forsaken

This show originally aired on Sunday, December 30, 2018 at 8:00 am.  My guest is Rev. Jonathan Brooks of Canaan Community Church in Chicago discusses neglected neighbors and saving souls.  He shares experiences with his congregation in inner Chicago.  He talks about food desserts, gentrification, a church as more than just a Sunday and Wednesday experience.  

 

He is also a hip-hop recording artist.  

 

Brooks as a graduate of Tuskegee University, Alabama.  

411 Show's Monhtly Pastors Roundtable on Issues of the Day

Monthly I include a Pastors Roundtable to get various perspectives on biblical principles, issues of the day and issues Christian's are grappling with.  We start this hour with some headlines, and then fold in the guest pastors.  They are; Rev. Robert T. Shipp of True Christian Pentecostal Witnesses and Officer Ben Zion of Israel United In Christ.

 

The beginnings of a very lively discussion on scripture, etc.

This show aired on Sunday, January 13, 2019 on WFSK radio in Nashville.  Guest pastors are Rev. Robert T. Shipp of True Pentecostal Witnesses and Officer Ben Zion of Israel United In Christ.  This was really an interesting discussion on scripture.  

Be sure to listen to the 7am hour as well for the beginning.  

 

Artist of the Week Ben Tankard

This interview is a weekly feature on JAZZY 88 WFSK.  The Artist of the Week for the 2nd week of January, 2019 was multi-instrumentalist, producer, author, and pastor Ben Tankard.  It was also his birthday.  This interview covers a lot area and included Ben's wife Jewel Tankard. We cover his latest release "Rise", his book, his family, ministry, reality TV Show Thicker Than Water and so much more.  

In this extended interview jazz trumpeter Ryan Montano is folded into the interview because he was waiting to meet me when I got off the air talking to Ben.  Ryan was in Nashville for a visit and dropped by the station to see me.  We had a great conversation on the music business.   

Judicial Fortitude Interview on the Book

This show aired on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 4pm. (cst) The first segment was my News From Community. I spoke with Amanda Dixon with Vanderbilt about a STEM program with open enrollment for 8th graders to high school.  Then, Peter J. Wallison is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute was my guest to discuss his new book Judicial Fortitude: The Last Chance to Rein In the Administrative State.   

From 1974 to 1976, he was counsel to Vice President Nelson Rockefeller. He was general counsel of the Treasury Department from 1981 to 1985, and White House counsel for President Ronald Reagan from 1986 to 1987. He is the author or coauthor of several books, including Ronald Reagan: The Power of Conviction and the Success of His Presidency (2003) and Hidden in Plain Sight: What Really Caused the World’s Worst Financial Crisis and Why It Could Happen Again.

 

Who Controls the Flow of Resources in Our Country?

This show aired live on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 5pm. (cst)  The hour begins with TN. Senator Brenda Gilmore commenting on clemency begin given for Cyntoia Brown by Governor Bill Haslam before he leaves office.  This case drew national attention for many years because of the issues involved in the case from human trafficking, her age at the time of the killing, and other factors.

My guest for the remainder of the hour was Edgar Villanueva.  He's a nationally-recognized expert on social justice philanthropy. Edgar currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Native Americans in Philanthropy and is a Board Member of the Andrus Family Fund, a national foundation that works to improve outcomes for vulnerable youth.  

His new book is Decolonizing Wealth: Indigenous Wisdom to Heal Divides and Restore Balance.  This was really a great discussion on a host of issues including the old boy networks, the savior complexes, and the internalized oppression among the “house slaves,” those select few people of color who gain access.

How Fear and Politics Keep Christians Distracted from their Christian Journeys

This show air on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 8am. (cst) My guest was Kent Annan,a senior fellow at Wheaton College’s Humanitarian Disaster Institute.  He is author of You Welcomed Me: Loving Refugees and Immigrants Because God First Loved Us.

This was a great discussion on today's climate and how some in the community of faith are at a crossroads between following what "thus says the Lord", and following their political beliefs.  We did involve some of the current news topics in the discussion.

This show originally aired live on Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 8am (cst). We always have way to much fun at the 411 Show's "What Christmas Means to Us" Live Christmas Party. I hold this early morning holiday party annually. This was the 17th one.

This hour Mayor David Briley joins us and we chat about a variety of stuff.  He sings with the group.  It features a variety of people from all different walks of life.
