Founder and saxophonist Jay Beckenstein was as livily and fun as her was the last time I interviewed him. Among much chatter we discussed “Vinyl Tap,” Spyro Gyra’s first album in six years.

The guest was producer/director Steve Ordower of Chicago, we discussed the connection beween gospel music and civil rights activism. Steve’s father Sid Ordower, a white man of Jewish heritage, was an associate of Martin Luther King Jr. and fought for civil rights through his TV program “Jubilee Showcase” which was to Gospel what “our Train” was for R&B.
The show started in 1963 with Sid as host and rang through 1984. It featured some of the biggest artists of the period such as The Soul Stirrers, The Staple Singers, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, Rev. James Cleveland, etc.
If you love gospel music it's good to go down memory lane. There is a thread connecting much of these rare performances with The Civil Rights Movement as many of these artists marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. or sang at his meetings.

The book activists, politicians, scientists, pastors, theologians, and artists on this urgent topic and urges readers to get involved in the gospel work of eradicating global malnutrition and feeding the hungry.

My guest was Shindana Feagins, MD an internists and long time health provider who recently wrote a book and a new curricula called We Have Such In Common, after her non-profit organization. Which is an educational programs for children ages 11-13. She says her mission is to promote harmony among young girls. Regardless of your ethnicity, your socioeconomic status, the color of your eyes, the texture of your hair, your body shape, the color of your skin or beliefs, we share similarities that unify us.
