Mayer s the award-winning author of When the Children Marched: The Birmingham Civil Rights Movement and editor of The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Dr. McLemore is contributing writing is a Mississippi activist who sparked a boycott of his high school in 1960, an interim mayor of Jackson, and a political science professor at Jackson State University.
